ANalisa - Junior

Analisa has always been interested in literature, poetry, and writing. She said, “I love to read books and my favorite genres of literature are mystery and dystopian fiction; furthermore, my favorite books are As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson and Legend by Marie Lu.” Her passion for literature, combined with her experience as a member of Sandia Prep’s literary magazine La Chispa as well as recitations at open mics has inspired Ana to spend her time in the Odyssey Scholars Program learning how to develop a story, researching writing techniques and styles, and exploring publication. Ana shared, “Writing a book matters to me because I want to leave a reader with something, such as a new perspective, or an enjoyable story to escape reality, or something to ponder more deeply. I would be able to contribute to the writing and reading world by creating something new that – hopefully – readers will love.”

Hey everyone! I am looking forward to starting my Odyssey journey. This summer I was able to read three books to explore some themes and genres that I enjoy. I read The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson, The Hunger Games, and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I loved the themes of mystery, dystopian, and romance. I wanted to find some inspiration from exceptional books that draw readers in and that create a dynamic story.

I started brainstorming some book ideas. My vision board I created helped me out with thinking of tropes and themes. While I was making my vision board I found this quote that I wanted to model with my project: “The thing you are most afraid to write, write that.” I want this to have true feelings and be somewhat of an extension of me. We also worked on our year plan and it was difficult to think that far ahead in the year of what I’ll be doing, but it was helpful to start out organized. I’m excited to see where I’ll go with this project.
