Acclaimed Professional Takes Over Prep Choral Program
August 8th, 2024
A longtime local professional singer, actor, and educator has taken over as Prep’s new choral director.
Laurie Finnegan is well known in the musical theater community as a performer and director. She is the Resident Director of Landmark Musicals, which enjoys a close collaboration with Prep.
A native New Mexican, Finnegan grew up in Albuquerque and attended Manzano High School and the University of New Mexico, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Upon graduation, she began a career of professional singing and acting, performing across the country and locally at several theaters in Albuquerque.
She has taught in both public and private schools while maintaining a private voice studio for more than 25 years. She counts teaching students and adults to sing as one of the greatest joys and accomplishments of her life.
Although Finnegan has performed numerous leading roles such as Mama Rose in Gypsy, Anna in The King and I, Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, Guinevere in Camelot, Aldonza in The Man of La Mancha and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, she is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Patsy Cline in A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline.
Finnegan is a member of the New Mexico Music Teachers Association and the New Mexico American Choral Directors Association. She enjoys gardening, reading, singing, playing the piano, and traveling.
Finnegan replaces Darby Fegan, who retired last spring after 25 years at Prep.
