Biography

Favorite Book
Francisco Jiménez wrote my favorite book series lately: "Cajas de Cartón¨, ¨Senderos Fronterizos¨ and ¨Más allá¨. These series are about the author's memories, adventures and challenges of being an immigrant picker from childhood into adulthood in the United States. As I read these books, I found myself reminiscing about my own experiences as an immigrant like learning English while going to college and playing sports; the struggles to find work; and to live in a rural area when you grow up in a city. Above all, these series reminded me to be the most thankful for my education, and for those who have shaped and supported me along the way. These series are relatable to anyone as far as earning education, developing empathy for others, and creating bonds that can be life changing.

What's your secret skill or something people might be surprised to learn about you?
My secret weapon is adaptability to new experiences! Here are some examples:
- I came to the United States to play volleyball in college and learn English. I was a decorated volleyball player and a good student!
- I lived alone in 3 countries in between 19 and 25 years of age which shaped my independence.
- I grew up in one of the largest cities of the world and now I live in the desert in New Mexico!.

What do you enjoy most about Sandia Prep?
I love that teachers and students at Sandia Prep have the opportunity to engage with different learning styles and work with project-based learning. I particularly enjoy the support from the school to teach materials that apply to our daily lives, while preparing students and peers to find solutions to real life problems more effectively. I also enjoy how Sandia Prep allows students to be kids during activities and lunchtime, while maintaining a high level of respect, learning, and expectation in the classroom.

How do you like to spend your downtime?
My downtime consists of reading, writing, having dates with my partner, playing sports, enjoying a sunset, going on a hike, and coloring mandalas.
