Prep Hires New Director of College Counseling

August 13th, 2024

Prep families have a new college counseling expert to rely upon.

Pablo Torres took over as Prep’s Director of College Counseling this summer. He has more than 20 years of experience in university admissions and college counseling. Most recently, he was the Associate Director of University Counseling at the Armand Hammer United World College, a two-year international boarding school in Montezuma, N.M.

Previously, he worked for 10 years at the University of New Mexico as the Director of International Admissions and Recruitment.

“While I loved working with international students to achieve their university goals, I am thrilled to work with local, New Mexico students here at Sandia Prep to find their next educational experiences,” Torres says.

Torres is a dual citizen of the United States and Chile. His dad was a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile working on a reforestation program when he met Torres’s mom, a Chilean college student. "Probably because of this, I have great interest in all things international and have traveled to nearly 30 countries," he shares.

Born in Albuquerque and raised in Belen, Torres graduated from the Albuquerque Academy. He has a BA in English from Santa Clara University and an MBA from New Mexico Highlands University.

In his spare time, Torres loves traveling, trying new recipes, and planting trees. He’s a member of Tree New Mexico’s Tree Stewards Program.

Torres took over for Melissa Morse, who retired from Prep after 40 years of service at a range of colleges and prep schools.
