Sandia Preparatory School is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Facilities Team. This individual will work under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator to maintain secure and well-functioning buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Technician will provide project support for facilities construction/maintenance projects. Candidates for this position will have excellent communication skills, be well-organized, and be able to receive direction and work independently. The ability to maintain effective working relationships with vendors, contractors, and all school departments is required. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain communication and cooperative working relationships with all administration, faculty, staff, students, and guests of Sandia Preparatory School

  • Adhere to building and equipment maintenance schedules

  • Contribute to the planning and scheduling of daily work assignments

  • Check classrooms, offices, devices, structures, and systems on a regular basis and identify needs for repairs

  • Comply with health and safety regulations; meet all health and safety standards

  • Occasional evening or weekend work for events or time-sensitive projects.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of building codes, laws, and regulations regarding school construction and repair

  • Ability to follow directions in the completion of day-to-day work and long-term projects/assignments

  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and standing for an extended period

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with vendors, contractors, school personnel, and members of the Prep community

Experience and Requirements

  • Work experience as a maintenance technician or in a similar role at a school.

  • Basic knowledge of facilities operations.

  • Operation of a computer and basic computer software

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, building, and grounds management

  • Understanding of safety regulations in schools

  • Well-organized

  • Sound judgment and the ability to think quickly during emergencies

  • Must be able to perform physical labor, lift over 50 pounds, reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, bend at the waist, and kneel or crouch
