Description
Sandia Preparatory School is seeking a dynamic, talented individual to join our team as an Academic Support Teacher for our Center for Learning Excellence (CFLE). This qualified person will assist middle and upper school students and meet the diverse demands and styles of students on accommodation plans. They will provide identified students with academic coaching, executive functioning, and study skills. At Sandia Prep, we work as a collaborative whole, and this teacher will work closely with the Director of the CFLE to meet the diverse needs of individual learners. Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist students in meeting course expectations.
- Assist students in tracking school assignments, creating study plans, and managing time for completion of assignments.
- Encourage and motivate students to stay on task to complete short and long-term assignments and projects.
- Assist students in utilizing best organizational strategies for better access to school resources.
- Teach students essential study skills strategies for high degree of retention of information.
- Teach students effective time-management strategies for prioritization, initiation, and completion of tasks.
- Teach students how to advocate for their learning through various methods of communication with their teachers.
- Review students’ academic progress on the school’s learning platform.
- Communicate with students’ advisors and teachers about all aspects of the students’ learning.
- Update parents and teachers regularly about students’ progress in the CFLE.
- Protect confidentiality of student records.
- Build trusting relations and maintain open communication with students, parents, faculty, and school administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or working towards one. Special Education or a related field endorsement preferred but not required.
- Previous experience as an instructor of students with learning differences preferred, but not required.
- Experience in teaching/tutoring students in a variety of classes and age groups.
- Knowledge of learning differences and teaching strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally, and in writing.
- Positive attitude, empathy, and passion for bettering the lives of students.
