Prep for impact
At Sandia Preparatory School, we are not just preparing students for their future—we’re equipping them to make an impact today.
With that in mind, we are proud to introduce a new cornerstone of our educational vision:
THE IMPACT LAB
The Impact Lab will not only be a physical space designed to foster innovation and collaboration but a campus-wide initiative that inspires and connects us all. This dynamic program will extend beyond a single location on campus, using experiential learning to empower students with the skills and confidence to make an immediate impact in their communities and the world.
The Impact Lab will:
Empower students to solve real-world challenges while collaborating with local businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders.
Foster leadership skills through internships, service projects, and capstone experiences such as the Senior Impact Experience.
Incorporate global learning opportunities, allowing students to gain empathy and understanding by learning deeply about other cultures.
Create Impact Lab-designated courses, which will be noted on student transcripts to highlight their real-world, impact-driven learning.
Encourage partnerships between students, faculty, and community members to work on meaningful, cross-disciplinary projects with lasting effects.
Our Fundraising Goal
Thanks to a $100,000 matching grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation, we’re launching this program with the potential to double its impact. It will soon be an integral part of our curriculum and our students’ journeys.
To make this vision a reality, we need to meet our $100,000 match requirement, and that’s where our incredible community of parents and supporters comes in. Your contribution today will ensure this program flourishes, opening doors for students to lead projects that extend into the broader community and make lasting change.
We've already begun
Through partnerships with organizations such as the Albuquerque BioPark, Landmark Musicals, and local engineering firms, students will participate in hands-on learning projects. Some examples include:
Assistive Devices for Shining Stars Preschool: Our students recently designed adaptive devices to help children with disabilities, enabling them to move and play with more freedom and joy.
Collaboration with Albuquerque BioPark: Our Eighth-Grade Engineering and Computing class contributed to the design of new playground elements at the Heritage Farm Exhibit, enhancing the visitor experience at the Albuquerque BioPark.
Partnerships with UNM: Through our collaboration with the University of New Mexico, students earn dual credit for select Prep engineering courses, tackle real-world engineering challenges, and apply classroom concepts to practical scenarios. Additionally, some students gain hands-on experience interning at a UNM physics lab.
Collaboration between Sandia Prep and Landmark Musicals: Sandia Prep and Landmark Musicals have a long-standing partnership, and now with a formal collaboration, students earn school credit for work on Landmark productions, showcase their musical and visual arts talents, and create digital design materials for the shows.
Join Us: Empower Students to Make an Immediate Impact
With your support, we will build a program like no other in Albuquerque by:
- Hiring an Impact Lab Director to oversee, organize, and develop impact-driven curricula and projects
- Providing professional development for faculty in experiential, project-based learning
- Offering release time and stipends for faculty to design and implement Impact Lab courses
- Renovating and furnishing of a dedicated space for students, faculty, and partners to work on Impact Lab projects
- Visiting and partnering with schools and organizations to gather best practices and build out the vision of the Impact Lab
- Joining national networks and sending students to leadership conferences to expand learning and collaboration
Thank you for joining us in creating a program that will inspire, educate, and empower.
We’re grateful to have you with us on this journey!
