NEW! College Essay Writing

Led by seasoned Sandia Prep University Admissions Director and College Counselor Pablo Torres, this course will review actual college admission essay questions and examples of good and bad essays. Students in the course will learn about writing techniques, use personal reflection to brainstorm their own essay topics, experience creative writing exercises, and engage in peer reviews of their written work. Students will leave the course with a solid final, or near final, draft of a college admission essay they can be proud of.

Fear Not! Public Speaking 

Speaking in public is routinely rated as one of people's top fears in life. But this is something we all must do at some point—and being an adept public speaker is an important lifelong skill. In this fun, fast-paced class, you will learn all aspects of dynamic public speaking, including how to build a presentation, manage your anxiety, engage the audience, use open and high-energy nonverbal messaging, project your voice, and make good eye contact. You’ll go from “oh no” to “no problem, I’ve got this!”

Geometry for Credit

This class has been approved by Sandia Prep’s Mathematics Chair and can be taken for credit by Sandia Prep students only. Upon successful completion, a student will be placed into Algebra II the following year. (This is a six-week class for Sandia Prep students only. Class meets Monday - Thursday. To receive credit, students may miss no more than two class days and earn a grade of C or higher.)

Prep for Middle School

This middle school success class is designed to help incoming 5th and 6th graders adjust to the challenges of middle school. Through social and emotional learning, you'll learn how to build confidence, manage stress and make friends. Master essential skills like calculating your GPA and composing a professional email. Grow as a writer, strengthen essential math skills, learn how to stay organized, and master study skills as you prepare for the exciting transition to middle school.
