Costume Design and Construction
Learn to sew! Let your imagination go wild as you learn this important theater skill. You’ll make costumes for our SummerPrep plays and for yourself, using a wide array of tools and designs.

Guitar
Guitar Beginning Skills
Discover the basics of guitar playing! You’ll learn at least five fun songs (both classical and rock-n-roll) and perform in a concert on the last day of the session. More advanced students can learn an additional three songs and more advanced guitar techniques that include picking and elaborate chord changes.

Guitar 2: Beyond the Basics
Are you ready to expand your skills? Build on your foundational knowledge by exploring intermediate techniques including learning more chords, strumming patterns, note reading, and playing popular songs.

NEW! Hip-Hop Dance
Hip-hop is the pinnacle of self-expression. Classes include warm-ups, across-the-floor progressions, style explorations (popping, locking, waving, gliding, etc.), and freestyle circles. These classes are for dancers who like self-expression and physical challenges. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility and strength, precision and creativity, and finding your own style.

NEW! Lyrical Dance
Lyrical dance combines techniques of classical ballet and jazz, as well as some modern elements. Classes include warm-ups, isolations, stretches, across-the-floor progressions, and choreography combinations. These classes are for dancers who like precision and rhythm, physical challenges, and expression, particularly with lyrically expressive songs. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility and strength, rhythms and isolation of body parts, and expressing personal style.

NEW! Musical Theater Audition Preparation Workshop
This workshop is for young performers who wish to learn how to confidently sing, perform, and audition for musical theater productions and programs. You will learn how to audition with confidence, handle and overcome audition anxiety, and prepare for an audition effectively. We will work on the audition songs and dance combinations for The Addams Family JR. and Beetlejuice JR. This half-day workshop is taught by Sandia Prep’s theater faculty. Lunch will be provided.

Beginning Piano
Taylor Swift. Alicia Keys. Elton John. Lady Gaga. These are just a few pop stars who are expert pianists. Whether you dream of being a big star or just want to learn one of the world’s most popular beginning instruments, this is your opportunity! You’ll learn the basics of reading music, correct position at the piano, and more while learning everything from classical to popular songs.

Theater Makeup
Have you ever wanted to create a zombie? Or wondered how artists make an old person look young, or a young person look old? Explore the world of theater makeup and learn how masterful makeup helps bring characters to life! Please note: Due to popular demand, your camper may register for this class for one session only. If space is available after May 1, 2025 your camper may enroll for a second session of this class.

NEW! Theater Main Stage Production: The Addams Family JR.
A comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family. It features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family–a man her parents have never met.
If that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before–keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
This beloved musical is directed and choreographed by professional dancer Louis Giannini and is under the musical direction of Laurie Finnegan. Both are dedicated to helping children build strong character, self-esteem, confidence, and discipline as the class participates in all aspects of the production, including singing, dancing, choreography, costume design, and set production. NEW! Theater Main Stage Production: Beetlejuice JR.
It's our show now, kid. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR., the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter shows his true stripes, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium.

Theater Tech
Learn how to bring a theatrical production to life. Follow design plans to paint large-scale scenery and acquire faux painting techniques. Explore prop-making using various sculptural materials and creative problem-solving skills. You never know what props a show might call for, so the materials we use can be anything under the sun! You’ll also have the opportunity to participate as crew for the SummerPrep Theater Main Stage Production to learn more about the behind-the-scenes activities that make up a theater production.
